At TriaVision, we are proud to have Dr. Lindsay Rhodes, a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and comprehensive ophthalmologist, as part of our expert team. Dr. Rhodes provides advanced clinical and surgical care for cataracts and glaucoma, combining her extensive academic experience with a passion for improving patient outcomes and preserving vision.

A Passion for Medicine and Patient Care

Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Dr. Rhodes grew up in a family that emphasized caring for the health and well-being of others. During her time at Brown University, she was a member of the Women’s Crew team, studied abroad in Italy, and graduated with Honors in Biology.

Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Rhodes explored a career in public service, working in Washington, DC for U.S. Senator Harry Reid. However, she found herself drawn back to science and the opportunity to make a more direct impact on individuals’ lives. She earned her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where she discovered her passion for ophthalmology and its ability to significantly improve quality of life.

She later completed her ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she remained on faculty for nearly a decade as an Associate Professor. During that time, she trained residents and fellows while advancing innovative research in eye care delivery.

Her Philosophy of Care

Dr. Rhodes believes that preserving vision is about more than treating disease, it’s about protecting a patient’s independence and overall quality of life. She is committed to providing thoughtful, individualized care and ensuring that each patient feels informed, supported, and confident in their treatment plan.

Her approach blends clinical excellence with a deep understanding of patient needs, creating a collaborative environment where patients are active participants in their care.

Q&A with Dr. Rhodes: Glaucoma Insights

Q: What is glaucoma and why is early detection so important?

A:  Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which is crucial for vision. It typically develops without noticeable symptoms early on, which is why routine eye exams are critical. Detecting it early allows us to slow or prevent vision loss, and if left untreated, glaucoma can lead to vision loss and blindness.

Q: What advancements have you seen in glaucoma care?

A: While there is currently no cure for glaucoma, there have been significant advancements in how we manage and slow its progression. Treatment options have expanded to include a range of effective approaches, from medicated eye drops that lower eye pressure to oral medications when needed. We also have laser therapies, such as laser trabeculoplasty, that can improve fluid drainage in the eye. For more advanced cases, surgical options like trabeculectomy or drainage implants provide additional ways to protect vision. These advancements allow us to tailor treatment plans to each patient’s specific needs and better preserve long-term eye health.

Q: What can patients do to protect their vision long-term?

A: Staying consistent with regular eye exams is key. It’s also important to follow treatment recommendations, manage overall health conditions, and communicate any changes in vision with your provider as soon as possible.

Beyond the Clinic

Outside of her work in ophthalmology, Dr. Rhodes enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, two children, and their two dogs. Their family loves hiking, biking, paddle boarding, and cross-country skiing.

A fun fact: before medical school, Dr. Rhodes worked as a Wrangler on a ranch in Wyoming, inspired by her childhood love of horseback riding and rodeo.
